“I still don’t know which way to go
But my eyes are on You
I still don’t know which way to turn
But my ears are to the ground
As long as You are lifted up
I don’t have to understand

All I know is that I believe
It’s not with my eyes that I can see
I’m a blind man fighting the world
Swinging back at me

The battle is the Lord’s
So I’ll walk towards You in the dark
Cause I know that in the end we win
So I’m all in
Lead me I’m Yours”

Trusting and Rejoicing in Trials

Posted: October 28, 2012 in Uncategorized

Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in Yahweh; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! Yahweh my Lord is my strength;
–from Habakkuk 3 HCSB

“Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings your glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain.” –Mercy Me
“It’s not that I don’t have an answer
It’s just not the one that I’d like
But through this time Lord I must keep in mind
You’re always wiser than IYou have a much better purpose
And You have a far greater plan
And You have a bigger perspective
Cause You hold this world in your hands” –Jonny Diaz “Waiting Room”
“Sometimes all we have to hold on to
Is what we know is true of who You are
So when the heartache hits like a hurricane
That could never change who You are
And we trust in who You are
Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart
And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing
Even if the healing doesn’t come” –Kutless “Even If”
“When I cannot understand God’s leading,
When I do not know the reason why
He should choose the path that lies before me,
Still to Him in faith I can reply:I will trust when I cannot see,
When I’m faced with adversity,
And believe Your will is always best for me
I will trust when I cannot see.” –John W. Peterson
“Day after day our God is reigning
He’s never shaken, my hope is in the Lord
Time after time our God is faithful
Trustworthy Savior, my hope is in the Lord” –Kristian Stanfill
“I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still rainingAs the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes awayAnd I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm” –Casting Crowns “Praise You in the Storm”
“All I hear is what they’re selling me
That God is love, he isn’t suffering
And what you need’s a little faith and prosperity
But, oh my God, I know there’s more than this
If you promise pain it can’t be meaningless
So make me poor if that’s the price for freedomDon’t stop the madness
Don’t stop the chaos
Don’t stop the pain surrounding me
Don’t be afraid, love, to break my heart
If it brings me down to my knees” –Tenth Avenue North “Don’t Stop the Madness”
” I know that You can do anything and no plan of Yours can be thwarted.” –Job 42:2

Sovereign Over Us

Posted: August 8, 2012 in God's sovereignty, lyrics, trusting God

“There is strength within the sorrow, There is beauty in our tears
You meet us in our mourning, With a love that casts out fear
You are working in our waiting, Sanctifying us
When beyond our understanding, You’re teaching us to trust

You are wisdom unimagined, Who could understand your ways
Reigning high above the heavens, Reaching down in endless grace
Youʼre the Lifter of the lowly, Compassionate and kind
You surround and You uphold me, Your promises are my delight

Even what the enemy means for evil
You turn it for our good, You turn it for our good and for your glory
Even in the valley You are faithful
Youʼre working for our good, Youʼre working for our good and for your glory

Your plans are still to prosper, You have not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Faithful forever, Perfect in love
You are sovereign over us” –Aaron Keyes

The Future

I’m rereading Kevin DeYoung’s Just Do Something.  It is a fantastic book.  It is funny to me how at different times when I’ve read it, completely different things have jumped out at me. This particular read-through, the following quote spoke to me.

“Contentment is saying ‘God has me here for a reason, and if He never does anything different, I’ll still serve and praise Him.’ Complacency is saying ‘Things will never change, so why bother trying?’ Nothing is impossible with God, so go ahead  and run hard after your big plans and take a shot at your dream job.  But remember that in almost any job, God can be pleased with your work so long as you are taking pleasure in Him as you do it.”

Forgiven Sanctus Real

Well the past is playing with my head
And failure knocks me down again
I’m reminded of the wrong
That I have said and done
And that devil just wont let me forget

In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am
I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
Cause I’m forgiven

My mistakes are running through my mind
And I’ll relive my days, in the middle of the night
When I wrestle with my pain, struggle with my pride
Sometimes I feel alone, and I cry

In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am
I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
Cause I’m forgiven

When I don’t fit in and I don’t feel like I belong anywhere
When I don’t measure up to much in this life
Oh, I’m a treasure in the arms of Christ ‘cause
Cause I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
Cause I’m forgiven.

Psalm 40:5 (HCSB)

Posted: February 19, 2012 in Uncategorized

LORD my God, You have done many things—
Your wonderful works and Your plans for us;
none can compare with You.
If I were to report and speak of them,
they are more than can be told.

Psalm 18:30-32 (ESV)

This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?— the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless.

Through It All

This song has always been special to me although not necessarily this particular version.  There were old people that sang it at my grandparents’ church when I was growing up. It was always an encouragement to me to see people who had been through some real trials and done some great things for the Lord, singing this from the heart.  It built faith in me that no matter what we go through, God is faithful and trustworthy even when we have hard times.  Difficulties are necessary for our growth; otherwise, God wouldn’t allow them in our lives.

Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal lifefrom the Spirit.  So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.
